HostGator Review: My ongoing experience with HostGator

 

Why I recommend HostGator:

I've been with HostGator for a long time, since November 25, 2011. My blog was previously hosted by DreamHost. Since the blog was increasingly rising and experiencing regular downtimes, it was time to explore other options. Instead of upgrading to a VPS, I switched to HostGator. This isn't yet another Hostgator review; there are many on the internet. This is how I felt about HostGator at the time. This is my account of my time with HostGator.

For shopping, there is no better day than Black Friday. Yes, it was Black Friday, and I was able to get a 50% discount on a baby package (shared hosting). Soon after buying, I was checked.

I switched NetRival to HostGator in a matter of days. I'm not afraid to admit that I'm another satisfied customer. You can verify NetRival's uptime. I'm happy with the evidence!!

Why HostGator sucks?

Is that true? No, HostGator, like many other top web hosting companies, does not sucks (except for one major reason: adult site hosting). In the majority of cases, we are to blame and point the finger at our web host.

Let me explain the facts:

• Due to a.htaccess misconfiguration and other script errors.
• I was astounded to learn how a 404 error (missing file) could cause so much trouble. I posted a link to a missing file in one of my most famous posts. It was very distressing to see the deplorable state of affairs.
• We have high expectations about what we pay for.
• For running a heavy forum or blog, HostGator shared hosting is not a good choice. Yes, you do not expect a million visitors to your joint hosting account for a few dollars per month.
• Themes and plugins aren't an issue.
• Misconfigured Plugins or Themes are another explanation why HostGator shared hosting fails to meet your expectations. In certain cases, I've seen people ignore themes and plugins and blame their web hosting provider for a slow or sluggish server. It's not a pleasant situation. W3TC, for example, is good for VPS and Dedicated servers, while SuperCache and HyperCache are the best for shared hosting. Don't blame either W3TC or HostGator for a sluggish server; they weren't designed for each other.
• Do not look at the error log or the cPanel server utilization graph.
• Why in the world don't you search the server logs and resources? As far as I'm aware, HostGator shared hosting allows you to use up to 25% of the CPU, which is extremely large. Examine the server logs and the server utilization graph to get a sense of how sluggish your shared hosting is.
• Don't use a CDN or a proxy server.
• If you become more well-known or wealthy, consider investing in a CDN or Cloudflare-like service. I use a CDN and the Google PageSpeed Service for some of my sites (PSS). It will not only keep your server consumption down but will also dramatically increase the pace of your website.
  

These are some of the reasons why Hostgator (or any other shared web hosting service) does not stink. Oh, and there's one more important explanation. And that is the case.

Affiliate earnings are one of the most important factors in ratings for HostGator. Since many bloggers dislike HostGator affiliates or do not make as much money as other blogs, they began to dislike their affiliate program and thus the Awesome Web Hosting service.

Reasons to choose HostGator:

So, I'm not going to suggest there are ten or twenty reasons to go with HostGator. But here are a few things I really like about HostGator:

• Very affordable shared hosting.
• A reasonable amount of server resources 8 to 32 core servers.
• Best uptime I experienced.
• The proof is already public
• Can easily handle 35000 visitors a day (In my experience, I got 1120 simultaneous visitors without any glitch or warning)
• Better support (I rarely needed)

Reasons NOT to choose HostGator:

• They allow Adult and Porn Hosting as per Texas laws.
• Many bloggers publicly speak that they cheat their affiliates.

This HostGator Review is not about affiliate income?

Many people around me are complaining about how bad Hostgator shared hosting is. This event compelled me to write this piece. To be clear, I have not included any affiliate links in this post until now. HostGator is not a scumbag. This HostGator review isn't about making money; it's about sharing my knowledge (and some facts) about the business.

Of course, some people could be dissatisfied with a service, and HostGator may be one of them. But there is one thing I am certain of. HostGator shared hosting is regarded as one of the best in the world. (At least, that's how it felt to me.) And the majority of its users adore it.
