How to Create a WordPress Site from Scratch With HostGator

Once you’ve selected a hosting plan, you'll register a replacement domain with HostGator, purchase one from another provider, or transfer an existing one.

You’ll be sent a login link, alongside your username and password, once you are check-in. You’ll use this information to log in to your account via your instrument panel as shown below.



Once in your cPanel, you'll complete the subsequent steps. 

  • Navigate to the Software section and click on on the QuickInstall tool.
  • On the left side of the screen, select Site Builders & CMS > One-Click Installs.
  • Select WordPress.
  • Select your domain using the menu. 
  • Fill in the form shown below.




  • Under Blog Title, enter the name of your website.
  • Under Admin Username, enter your preferred username.
  • Enter your first and surname.
  • Under Admin Email, enter a working email address. this is often where your admin password is going to be sent.
  • Check the box next to the Terms of Service Agreement.
  • Finally, click the Install button. 

When your installation is complete, check your email for your WordPress username and password and a link to your WordPress dashboard. The link is going to be something like https://mysite.com/wp-admin. Click it and log in.

How to Create Your Site in WordPress

  1. Change Your WordPress URL.
  2. Update Your Permalink Settings.
  3. Choose Your WordPress Theme.
  4. Customize Your Site With Plugins.
Once you’re in your WordPress dashboard, you'll complete these basic steps to urge your site up and running.


Step 1: Change Your WordPress URL

It’s important that your visitors recognize and trust your site’s name and address. That’s why your initiative after installing WordPress should be checking that your site isn’t redirecting to a different site or showing the incorrect name. If it is, you can:

  1. Click Settings within the sidebar on the left-hand side of the page.
  2. Select General. 
  3. Update the WordPress Address and Site Address fields to https://yourdomainname.com. 
  4. Click Save Changes.
On this tab, you'll also confirm that the zone and Email Address fields are filled out correctly.


Step 2: Change Your Permalink Settings

By default, WordPress uses URLs that have a bunch of numbers and question marks in them. They work fine, but they’re tough to recollect and should confuse your visitors. a far better URL for your About page could be https://www.yourdomain.com/about rather than https://www.yourdomain.com/??123p=3. 

You can change your permalink structure in four easy steps.

  1. Click Settings within the sidebar on the left-hand side of the page.
  2. Select Permalinks. 
  3. Click Post Name or whichever structure you favor. 
  4. Click Save Changes.



Step 3: Choose Your WordPress Theme

There are many free and premium themes available for you to put in on your site without employing a single line of code. If you’re just starting to build your site, you'll want to go to WordPress.org’s Theme Directory to browse many free themes. However, if you recognize you would like a topic with more bells and whistles, you'll explore premium themes at StudioPress and Themify, among other sites.

Once you discover a topic you wish, download it and return it to your WP dashboard.

  1. Click Appearance within the sidebar on the left-hand side of the page.
  2. Select Themes.
  3. Click the Add New button at the highest of the screen.
  4. Then click the Upload Theme button. You’ll find the theme during a .zip file on your computer.
  5. If you added and uploaded multiple themes, you'll preview them to narrow down your selection. 
  6. Once you’ve chosen one, click the Activate button. 
  7. Once activated, you'll customize it.


Step 4: Customize Your Site With Plugins

There also are many free and premium plugins to increase the functionality of your site. to start your search, you'll want to browse the WordPress plugin directory, which can list all of your free options right in your dashboard. Here's how:

  1. Click Plugins within the sidebar on the left-hand side of the page.
  2. Select Add New.
  3. Browse the plugin archive until you discover one you wish.
  4. Click the Install Now button.
