How To Add Addon Domain To Your HostGator Hosting Account

You're probably using multi-domain cPanel hosting and aren't even aware of it. I was sitting with a friend the other day who happened to have a Hostgator hosting account. He had a Baby plan, which allowed someone to host several websites on the same server. He had no idea and was looking to purchase new hosting for a new website. I realized my blog reader may not be aware of this while explaining to him why he does not need new hosting while I was explaining to him why he does not need new hosting.

To begin with, most reputable shared hosting companies allow you to host several websites on a single account. That means you can have five, ten, or even more websites with only one account.

For instance, Bluehost, InMotionHosting, and Hostgator are just a few examples. In this guide, I'll show you how to connect an existing domain to your Hostgator hosting using Hostgator as an example. Almost all other cPanel hostings will follow the same procedure.

In my case, I paid $1.99 for a.com domain from Godaddy and had the Nameservers changed to point to my Hostgator hosting. You will find your name-server in the bottom left corner of your HostGator account. I'm assuming you already have a domain name that you bought somewhere else and have updated the Name-servers to point to your hosting account.

Adding Addon Domain using cPanel: On Hostgator

This guide is usually applicable to any web hosting company that provides cPanel hosting. All entry-level hosting companies provide you with cPanel, which is the most popular hosting dashboard.

Log in to your Hostgator cPanel and select addon domains from the domains drop-down menu.

In the New domain name field on the addon domains tab, type your domain name. It will also prompt you to create an FTP login password. You may also change your domain's default location.

On shared hosting, your sites are classified in a directory under /public Html/, and your primary domain's files are also located under /public Html/.

To finish the operation, click Add Domain. Your domain name has been added, and a new FTP username has been developed, according to the next screen. Remember to copy and save your FTP login details. This is necessary because you might want to give your developer or designer access to this domain when exchanging FTP logins.

That's it; you've now added a new domain to your multi-domain web hosting account. On existing hosting, you can now install WordPress or do whatever you want with your domain.
